FSW technology –
Friction stir welding
High-strength joints without melting – for demanding applications
Friction stir welding (FSW) is an innovative and particularly environmentally friendly welding process in which materials are joined together in a solid state. It is ideal for aluminum alloys, but also for joining different materials that are difficult to join using conventional welding methods.
The purely mechanical connection – without a weld pool – produces virtually flawless, dimensionally stable and high-strength weld seams that can withstand even high loads and extreme requirements. FSW is therefore the ideal solution for safety-relevant components and modern lightweight construction applications – e.g. in e-mobility, aviation or mechanical engineering.
Your advantages with FSW at a glance:
Highest connection quality
- Pressure and media-tight weld seams
- High strength and load-bearing capacity
- No pores, hot cracks or spatter – as no liquid phase is created
- Reproducible quality with every seam
- Low distortion, precise results
Environmentally friendly & harmless to health
- Emission-free process – no smoke, no gases, no noise
- No additives such as shielding gases, powder or welding rod required
- No radiation – no exposure for employees
- Energy-efficient and resource-saving
Typical areas of application:
- Joining all types of aluminum alloys
- Joining heterogeneous materials (e.g. aluminum-copper)
- Components with the highest demands on tightness & stability
- Central production technology for e-mobility:
→ e.g. battery trays, cooling plates, heat exchangers
